Katie Allen joins list of South Australian sporting greats

Hockey Australia congratulates Hockeyroo gold medallist Katie Allen on the announcement she will be inducted into the South Australian Sport Hall of Fame.

Allen represented the Hockeyroos on 182 occasions and was instrumental in the Hockeyroos’ 2000 Sydney Olympic gold medal winning team. During her career she also won two World Cups, three Champions Trophies and a Commonwealth Games Gold Medal.

Most recently, Allen has been a Hockeyroos Assistant Coach which included last year’s Tokyo Olympic campaign.

‘KA’ as she is affectionately known was born in Adelaide and came through the hockey ranks at Burnside Hockey Club.

She becomes the sixth South Australian hockey player of any gender to receive recognition in the SA Sport Hall of Fame, joining her Hockeyroos teammates Juliet Haslam and Alison Peek, as well as Robert Haigh (2011), Sandy Pisani (2015) and Grant Schubert (2018).

“On behalf of everyone involved in Australian hockey, I congratulate Katie on this recognition and accolade,” said Hockey Australia CEO David Pryles.

“She was an integral part of the Hockeyroos’ golden generation and is a champion of our sport, so to join the list of amazing sportspeople in the South Australian Sport Hall of Fame is a wonderful and fitting acknowledgement of that.”

Allen is among six new inductees into the SA Sport Hall of Fame. The official event to celebrate the inductions is scheduled to take place at the Adelaide Oval on 8 April 2022. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
