Katie Allen will end her time as Hockeyroos Assistant Coach after announcing she is stepping away from the role.
The Olympic gold medallist from Sydney 2000 has been an Assistant Coach for Australia’s national women’s team since the Women’s World Cup in June 2018.
During this time the Hockeyroos won a silver medal at the 2018 Champions Trophy, finished runners up of the inaugural FIH Pro League, qualified for the Tokyo Olympics and won all five of their Preliminary Round matches of the Tokyo Games before being stunned by India in the quarter finals.
“Katie has given everything to her role for the Hockeyroos, working tirelessly with a clear focus on the players individually and the purpose of returning the team to becoming the best in the world,” said Hockey Australia High Performance Director Bernard Savage.
“She demonstrated an unwavering belief in the team, the program and the individual players, and worked to ensure all were successful.
“She expertly took the role of leading the squad in challenging times over the past two years, setting them up for success and resetting the focus onto the Tokyo Olympics.”
“It is clear Katie will be missed by the playing group, the coaches and the staff. We wish Katie all the best in the next chapter, knowing she will approach it with the same passion and commitment she has brought to the Hockeyroos.”
Admitting it was a difficult decision to make, Allen said it was the right time for a change.
“I am proud of what the Hockeyroos have been building over the past few years and I’ve loved striving for that growth with the athletes and staff,” said Allen.
“Whilst I am disappointed that I won’t continue to be part of it, I need a change and to continue to develop. I feel that this is the best time for myself and the program for that change to occur.”
“I have such a strong belief in this group, and I am very much looking forward to seeing them become the team they are capable of leading into and beyond Paris.”
