The reveal of the 2024 fixtures comes with an even bigger announcement of an exciting partnership between Hockey One League and the Tasmanian Government, through Events Tasmania, which will see fans descend on Hobart to witness an action-packed Finals Series spanning the weekend of November 30 - December 1.
Fans are once again in for a treat with Hockey One the only sports league in Australia to see all franchises compete in women’s and men’s match double headers each game day, which take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The League features seven franchises from across the country, including Tasmania, NSW, the ACT, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and Victoria, showcasing the strength of the hockey pathways nationwide.
All matches will be streamed live and free on 7plus. Tickets will go on sale in August, with memberships to go on sale in June.
Hockey One League Executive Manager Sash Herceg says the Road to Hobart Finals Series is an exciting step forward for the League.
“We’re thrilled to be taking our Finals Series to the hockey stronghold of Hobart and we encourage local and interstate fans to plan their trips to beautiful Tasmania to witness the very best women’s and men’s hockey talent from all four corners of the country. It’s set to be another blockbuster line-up of matches this season with The Road to Hobart adding an added exciting element to the campaign.”
Acting Minister for Sport and Events, Nick Duigan, said the Tasmanian Government was delighted to bring the Hockey One League Finals to Hobart.
“Major sports events are a huge drawcard for both interstate and intrastate visitors and are a great way to get the community interested and involved in sport,” Mr Duigan said.
“Hockey is a popular sport in Tasmania, and we have had plenty of home-grown talent over the years.”
Round One sees last year’s men’s runners-up, NSW Pride, go head-to-head with the Tassie Tigers in Hobart. While the 2024 women’s runners-up, Canberra Chill, play host to the Perth Thundersticks.
Last year’s women’s and men’s Champions, Brisbane Blaze, have a bye in round one but are set to start their campaign with a blockbuster against NSW Pride in a re-match of the men’s Grand Final last year.
Brisbane will need to work hard to drown out the noise of an away crowd in the brand-new Hockey One League matchday location of Newcastle in NSW, a region with a rich history and love of hockey.
It's the first stop on a new adventure for NSW Pride, with regional hockey fans set to be treated to a tour of hockey action, when they play in Newcastle, Goulburn and Narellan, instead of Sydney Olympic Park this season.
A heated clash also awaits in round seven when the Canberra Chill and NSW Pride meet in the middle of their two regions at Goulburn Hockey Complex. It promises to draw another huge crowd of fans from both sides of the border.
