Australian Country 2022 representative squads announced

Published Wed 24 Aug 2022

Following the COVID forced disruptions of the past two years, there was a high level of anticipation as national representative squads were announced at the end of the Hockey Australia Country Challenge in Albany.

As has become custom, men’s and women’s senior and under 21 Australian Country squads were selected from the competition.

National representative teams have been selected at the Country Challenge since the event’s inception, providing Country players with a unique opportunity to represent Australian internationally.

The senior squads are headlined by Queenslanders Grant Dilger and Eva Kersnovske who were awarded the Mick Anderson Medal and June Allen Medal as the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Tournament respectively.

“Positions within the representative teams are eagerly sought after and valued by those who earn them,” said Hockey Australia Country Chair, Michael Nelson.

“As national Country representatives, the players and team staff attract acknowledgment from their peers and domestic associations who share in their achievements.”

The teams selected in Albany will resume the touring schedule which was suspended by COVID.

The Under 21s will tour Indonesia in January, with the Senior teams returning to Singapore and Malaysia in April.

While in Indonesia, the Under 21s will take on the Indonesian national team and regional teams.

The Australian Country senior teams are scheduled to play the Singapore national teams and a variety of association teams in Malaysia.
