A twin, goalkeeper Tyler Lovell played alongside his brother Mathew at their local Perth hockey club, Kalamunda, from the age of five. As a youngster, Tyler played both hockey and cricket but in his mid-teens decided to focus on hockey. At the age of 15 he moved to his current club YMCC to play in the Western Australia premier division.
Lovell started 2016 off in style, tying the knot with his partner Josie at the Mandoon Estate in Western Australia in front of family and friends. After completing high school he went straight into full-time work in a sales and marketing role. Currently working for RMEM Engineering, sales and marketing is a career path that he wishes to continue with after hockey.
Lovell is yet to compete at either an Olympics or Commonwealth Games, but was part of the 2014 World Cup winning side which conceded only three goals for the whole tournament. He’s also won Champions Trophy, Oceania Cup, Commonwealth Games and World League titles.
