Named World Cup Goalkeeper of the Tournament by the International Hockey Federation in 2014, Rachael Lynch took up hockey after being selected in the primary schools’ state team.
Renowned for her standout performances under the bar during a shoot-out, Lynch helped the Hockeyroos to World Cup silver medal and Commonwealth Games gold medal in 2014. Lynch made her Olympics debut at the Rio 2016 games, alongside many of the Hockeyroos, however the team was knocked out of medal contention in the quarter finals.
Walking the slippery slopes of Papua New Guinea alongside teammate Ashleigh Nelson, in September 2014 the pair battled tough walking conditions for the R U OK? charity, raising over $30,000. In 2016 it was a new challenge for the pair with a cycle from Perth to Albany for the charity.
Lynch’s second love is nursing. Away from the hockey pitch there’s nothing she likes more than helping others through her role as a nurse at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
