Jake Whetton began playing hockey aged four, following in the footsteps of his parents in joining local club Eastern Suburbs Tigers in Brisbane.

A health and fitness fanatic, the tricky forward credits 1976 Olympic silver medal winner Greg Browning as one of those to have had the strongest influence on his career, while cricketer Andrew Symonds was also a childhood hero. Encouraging him to attend training sessions with the likes of former Kookaburras Dean Butler and Stephen Lambert back in his hometown in Queensland gave Whetton the training and confidence needed to rise to the top. He was part of Australia’s gold medal winning 2014 Commonwealth Games side and competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

With one eye already on the future, he has ambitions to take up personal training and to travel extensively around Europe. Whetton finished 2016 on a high, marrying partner Sam in an intimate ceremony in Byron Bay.
