Victoria and Queensland share honours at Australian U13 Carnival

The Hockey Australia Under 13 Carnival made a welcome return to the national hockey stage after a successful event in Hobart.
The first national U13 Carnival since 2019 due to COVID saw Victoria and Queensland celebrating after topping the Boys and Girls tables respectively.
Queensland Cinders took home the Gold Medal in the Girls competition, edging out New South Wales Lions. Western Australia Lightning claimed bronze.
In the Boys competition, Victoria Venom went through the tournament undefeated with 9 wins and two draws to claim gold. Western Australian teams won the silver and bronze medals through WA Lightning and WA Storm.
A total of 155 goals were scored across the 66 matches in the Girls Carnival, 11 of those coming from the stick of NSW Stars’ Lucy Deiderick who finished four goals clear of QLD Cutters’ Annie Dixon as the competition’s top goal scorer.
There were a whopping 217 goals scored in the Boys competition with 138 players getting on the score sheet. Jack Brennan (VIC Venom), Phaedrus Liddiard (WA Lightning) and Sebastian Metcalf (WA Storm) all tied for the top goal scorer accolade finishing with 14 goals each.
