Vale Graham ‘Joe’ Henstock

Hockey Australia is saddened to hear Life Member Graham ‘Joe’ Henstock passed away on Sunday 15 January 2023.

A stalwart in the Hockey ACT community for over 30 years, Joe made a significant contribution over much of his life to hockey in the ACT and Australia in both the indoor and outdoor forms of the game. This included as an administrator, technical official, team manager, coach and umpire.

On the national and international scene, Joe was a Technical Official at the inaugural Indoor World Cup. He was a Tournament Director and Technical Official at many national championships plus several international series.

Joe was also integral in the establishment of an U13 division at the Australian Indoor National Championships and ran the national event for seven years in various roles.

He received Hockey ACT Life Membership in 1999 before becoming a Life Member of Hockey Australia last year.

For his service to hockey, Joe also received Life Membership of Tuggeranong Vikings Hockey Club, the Australian Sports Medal in 2000, was awarded ACT Volunteer of the Year in 2014, Hockey ACT Administrator of the Year five times and in 2017 the ACT Women’s Masters renamed their indoor tournament the Henstock Indoor Carnival.

He continued to serve on the Hockey ACT Senior Competition Committee and was an official in the local competition since 1991.

Hockey Australia sends its deepest condolences to Joe’s family in what is a sad day for Australian hockey and especially the ACT hockey community.
