Vale Bruce Pitt

Hockey Australia is saddened to learn that Stanley (Bruce) Pitt OAM has passed away at the age of 97.
Born on 25 October 1922 in Sydney, Bruce served in World War II in the RAAF in Lancasters in Bomber Command.
After the war he returned to Sydney briefly before moving to South Australia where he worked for Government Defence at Weapons Research Establishment.
He was drafted into administration at Hockey SA by the University of Adelaide when his son Geoffrey played.
Bruce supported the sport as an administrator for many years and was a tremendous contributor to hockey for someone who never played the sport.
A Life Member of the Australian Hockey Association and South Australian Hockey, Bruce was also awarded an Order of Australia (OAM) for services to the community.
“It is sad and signals the passing of an era,” said Bruce’s son Geoffrey.
“He led a life of contribution, particularly to the hockey community in South Australia, and up until the last few weeks had been living independently.”
Bruce passed away on 26 November 2019.
