Scintillating end to memorable Australian U21 Championships

Four captivating medal matches have provided an electrifying finale to this year's Hockey Australia U21 Championships in Perth.

Western Australia and Victoria share top honours in a scintillating display of hockey in both the Women's and Men's Gold Medal matches.

After going up 1-0 in the first quarter, Victoria could not stop a rampant Brodee Foster scoring two goals in as many minutes for Western Australia, which ended up being enough to decide the Men's Gold Medal encounter.

In the match for the Bronze Medal, after being 2-0 up at halftime, New South Wales State ran away with the game in the second half, defeating ACT 6-1.

Victoria appeared to have the Gold Medal in the bag in the Women's competition until Western Australia's relenetless pressure scored themselves two late goals in the last quarter to level the scores at 2-2 and send the game to a penalty shootout.

The Victorians recomposed themselves for the shootout, prevailing 3-1 in a nail-biting finish.

The Bronze Medal match also finished 2-2 at full-time between Queensland and New South Wales State. In another tense finale, Queensland won the shootout 3-2.

Western Australia's Brodee Foster had a tournament to savour, taking home the Men's Top Goal Scorer and the Player of the Tournament awards to go with his Gold Medal.

Foster also scored arguably the goal of the tournament, with the goal highlight video being seen thousands of times worldwide on social media.

Grace Young from New South Wales State was named the Women's Player of the Tournament, with Queensland's Tatum Stewart taking home the Top Goal Scorer award.
