Recently retired international Indoor hockey goalkeeper Troy Rossiter will join Australia’s National Indoor Women’s Hockey program as an Assistant Coach.

The man affectionately known as ‘Radar’ will work alongside Head Coach Mark Sandhu and be responsible for supporting the Australian Indoor Women’s program with the U18, U21 and Open squads through to the next Indoor Hockey World Cup in 2024/2025.

“I am keen to assist with ongoing development of all the athletes across the country and being able to contribute to these athletes’ journey towards the next World Cup,” said Rossiter.

“It is exciting to see so much depth in the younger age groups, which has been a focus for both Mark (Sandhu) and Steve Willer with the men’s program.”

As a player, Rossiter debuted in the Australian Indoor team in 2015 and was an integral part of the squad until his retirement earlier this year.

For the past four years he has also been involved in a coaching capacity. He has overseen Queensland’s U21 Men’s team while also undertaken various coaching and selector roles for Hockey Queensland across several age groups with both the male and female programs.

“Troy is an outstanding person who brings a high level of excellence to the coaching team,” said Sandhu.

“His recent experience as an Australian Indoor goalkeeper, playing at the last World Cup in 2018, along with his various roles coaching Queensland teams will make him a great asset to the program.”

Rossiter’s first line of business is to support the National Selection Panel with selecting the 2022 National Women’s U18, U21 and Open squads.

These selections will take place in January and February with national training camps planned along with a potential Test Series depending on COVID restrictions.
