New Sport Australia Game Plan program to benefit local hockey

Hockey clubs and associations at all levels across the country will have access to a new online tool from Sport Australia to help them improve their governance.
The release of the free and user friendly diagnostics program created by Sport Australia brings together best practice resources across the sector with support from clubs, State Sporting Organisations and National Sporting Organisations.
Designed to support sporting clubs and associations of all sizes, the digital platform solution provides valuable insights into their strategic and operational capabilities.
Hockey Australia, together with the Member Associations and clubs, have been actively involved throughout the development and testing stage.
Further to the program, Game Plan also contains a list of specific tools and useful resources to assist clubs and associations strengthen their governance processes and support ongoing development.
“The Game Plan project is extremely important to Hockey Australia,” said HA General Manager Strategy & Game Development, Michael Johnston.
“Club development is an area that we have identified we need to be more active in. There is no better time to help clubs than now with the challenges they have faced and will continue to manage due to COVID-19.”
“Game Plan allows clubs to measure different areas of capability and identify where they might be falling behind. This is important because it means we can deliver resourcing that targets their exact pain points, rather than asking clubs to search for information.
“We believe this will give back valuable time to local administrators and improve the performance of our clubs and associations.”
Game Plan replaces the club health check tool and has been developed to enable a club to improve the breadth of skills of its people, volunteers and management.
This will allow them to adapt quickly and maximise the club’s resources. When key committee workforce is churned or lost, the club will have access to a trusted record, allowing organisational continuity over time.
Hockey Australia, with the assistance and cooperation of the Member Associations, will release and continue to add valuable hockey specific resources to the platform early in 2021.
