New Officiating Advisory Group formed

Hockey Australia, in consultation with the recently expired Officiating (Men & Women) Appointment Panels, have formed the new Officiating Advisory Group (OAG).

The role of the OAG can be viewed in the Terms of Reference.

Roles and responsibilities of the OAG include:

• Recommending appropriate appointments for national and international events.
• Regularly consulting with Member Associations on their pathway programs and identified officials.
• Working with HA High Performance staff to identify opportunities for pathway officials at HP events.
• Liaising with Oceania Hockey Federation and the International Hockey Federation (FIH) on matters relating to officiating.

The OAG is made up of seven appointed volunteers and one HA representative. The volunteers have expertise in either Technical, Umpiring/Umpire Management or Indoor Hockey.

“The officiating community is among the most engaged and passionate in our hockey family,” said HA Acting CEO, Michael Johnston.

“This new OAG will serve the entire officiating community, relying on the engagement of Member Association structures.

“We are excited to support the OAG members in providing a positive officiating experience and an even better playing and coaching experience for all.”

Appointments on the newly formed OAG have now been finalised. Queenslander Lyn Hill was appointed Chair. Hill is a highly respected and long-time officiating advocate.

“I am excited and honoured to be appointed Chair of the new Officiating Advisory Group,” said Hill.

“The decision to combine the Men’s and Women’s Officiating Committee into one Advisory Group is indicative of the progression of officiating in world hockey.”

“It is a great opportunity for the combined group to maximise the knowledge and experience of those appointed to the OAG, consisting of both new and returning members.

“We look forward to working together with all States, their officiating staff and volunteers to ensure there is a well-balanced approach towards the advancement of Australian officials.”

The most immediate action for the OAG will involve developing a plan to consult with Member Associations and setting outcomes to achieve.
