‘Fun is what it is all about.’ Hockey Australia has released a brand new kids ad showcasing everything there is to love about hockey.

There is so much for kids to experience and love about hockey – getting out and playing on the pitch, being active and having fun together with their friends.

Filmed at YMCA Coastal City Hockey Club (YMCC Hockey Club) in Perth, the ad features juniors from the club plus fleeting cameos by Australian hockey great Jamie Dwyer and current Kookaburras goalkeeper Tyler Lovell.

YMCC is one of Perth’s largest hockey clubs for junior participants with around 600 kids and 32 teams registered to play last year.

“Our junior program is extremely important to us. What we try to do is look after kids of all skill levels,” said YMCC President Enzo Evangelista.

“The HookIn2Hockey session we hosted for the ad, that is the type of thing that we love. All of the kids get involved and we love other clubs coming and getting involved as well.

“Having fun is what it is all about. I think the kids enjoy it because it’s a fun place to be, they build lots of friendships and they get to understand what it means to be in a team.”

With video cameras, lights and drones all on hand for the filming of the ad, together with the presence of Dwyer and Lovell, made the occasion one that the kids will not forget any time soon.

“They absolutely loved it. You could see the smiles on their faces and poor old Tyler and Jamie were getting swarmed,” said Evangelista.

“It’s important these kids get to know who their heroes are and that’s great to see. These hockey legends who represent our country, they are so highly regarded by the kids, so it was fantastic for them to be part of it and they loved the HookIn2Hockey packs that they got.”

“Hockey is a fantastic sport and I hope it grows. These ads help to promote the sport in this competitive environment of kids sports and it is great to see hockey up for the challenge.”
