Hockey Australia Board update 2023

Hockey Australia wishes to inform of updates to its Board of Directors after the annual Council Meeting was held in Canberra last Friday 24th November 2023.

President Ross Sudano was re-elected to the Board unopposed by all State/Territory Member Associations.

After completing a maximum three full terms, Sandra Sully retires from the Board after 10 years of service. Mary Konstantopoulos also decided to step down after four years as a HA Board Director.

Sandra has been and continues to be an exceptional ambassador of hockey in Australia through her unwavering passion, commitment and dedication. She served part of her decade as Vice President and was integral in many key projects and decisions around strategy and governance that have significantly progressed and improved the sport.

These included successfully navigating the sport through the COVID pandemic plus the 2016 and 2021 cultural reviews into the women’s high performance program. She was Chair of the People and Culture Committee and also opened avenues for hockey to secure philanthropic support. Sandra’s standing and reputation in the national media landscape and the subsequent benefit to hockey also cannot be understated. Sandra will not be lost to Hockey as she is a current director of the Hockey One League.

In her time as a HA Board Director, Mary was a leading figure in the review of the Women’s High Performance Program, chairing the Implementation Working Group for the resultant implementation of the review’s recommendations in 2021.

Mary was also involved in the expression of interest process for the Hockey Australia High Performance Centre of Excellence as a member of the Assessment Panel which saw the sport secure a $135 million investment into a new world class facility in Perth.

Hockey Australia sincerely thanks Sandra and Mary for their magnificent service to the HA Board and hockey in Australia over their respective tenures.

The annual Council Meeting comprises the HA Board plus State and Territory Member Association Presidents and Chief Executives.

The Hockey Australia Board currently comprises Ross Sudano (President), Pat Hall (Vice President), Brent Clark, Max Diamond, Colin Murphy, Sally Carbon, Craig Roberts and Joanne Scanlon.
