Hobart to host 2024 Hockey Australia Men’s Masters Championships

The 2024 edition of Australian hockey’s largest participation event, the national Men’s Masters Championships, will take place in Hobart from 12 July to 1 August.

Masters players from around Australia will converge on the Tasmanian capital for the event that continues to grow in popularity.

This year’s recent Men’s Masters Championships in Perth featured 92 teams across 15 competitions and ten age divisions ranging from 34+ up to 80+.

Next year’s event will be the fourth time the Tasmanian Hockey Centre has hosted the Men’s Masters Championships. The event was previously held in Hobart in 1987, 2012 and 2017.

“The Australian Men’s Masters Championships continues to go from strength to strength and set new records for participation each year,” said Hockey Australia Chief Events Officer Simon Butterly.

“This year’s historic combined event with the Women’s Masters in Perth was incredible and the number of men’s teams and introduction of an 80+ age division underlines how much players want to attend and be part of this event.”

“We thank the Tasmanian Government through Events Tasmania and Hockey Tasmania CEO Damian Smith for their support, and also the Hockey Australia Masters Committee for their collaboration through this process of confirming a location.”

“Tasmania has a record of hosting fantastic successful national and international hockey events and I am sure it will be no different come July next year.”

Tasmanian Minister for Sport and Recreation and Minister for Stadia and Events Nic Street said the Tasmanian Government was proud to be a strong supporter of hockey, and the state was ready to welcome more than 4,000 competitors for 21 days of competition.

“Events like this are fantastic for the competitors, who can enjoy visiting our beautiful state and playing in our top-level facilities, and for the community, who can be inspired by older players still staying active and representing their state,” Minister Street said.
