Heat measures were enforced as the two teams played under the scorching European sun and Australia were ready to match it, dazzling with red hot goal-scoring form and determined to secure their spot in the knockouts.

A Blake Govers hat-trick and a repeat clean sheet performance by Aussie goalkeeper Andrew Charter ensured New Zealand’s campaign would come to an abrupt end, all while reinjecting Australia’s confidence following a tough loss to Belgium.

Striker Tom Wickham opened the Kookaburras charge in the second quarter, his fine deflection finishing off a thunderous strike from skipper Aran Zalewski at the top of the circle.
