Get involved and set a goal for Olympic Day

Published Thu 18 Jun 2020

Tuesday 23 June is Olympic Day around the world and it is not too late to be a part of it.

Olympic Day is an international celebration to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on 23 June 1894 and has been developed to promote healthy and active lifestyles. It is much more than just a sports event, it is a day for the world to get active, learn about Olympic values and discover new sports.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) themes for Olympic Day are MOVE, LEARN, DISCOVER.

This year, Olympic Day has taken on a new significance given the global COVID-19 pandemic and isolation. As such, Olympic Day in 2020 is about encouraging people to keep active and re-assess their goals, just like Olympic athletes.

Hockey Australia, in conjunction with the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) and International Hockey Federation (FIH), is encouraging everyone to get into the Olympic spirit and set a goal or give something a go by Olympic Day based around one of the following themes:

#StayStrong
#StayHealthy
#StayActive

It could be something as simple as committing to going to bed an hour earlier, eating broccoli every day for a week, going for a jog at your local park every day or doing 20 star jumps first thing in the morning.

Learning French, how to play a musical instrument or training to run a half marathon might be a bit of a stretch to achieve by next Wednesday, but who says you can’t keep going past Olympic Day.

So get amongst it, set yourself a realistic goal by next Wednesday and make sure to use the hashtag #OlympicDayGoals and tag Hockey Australia and the Australian Olympic Team in your social media video or post stating what you have set out to achieve.

And keep an eye out on the Kookaburras and Hockeyroos social media channels to find out what goals some of the players will be doing
