Hockey Australia (HA) has today opened an ‘Expression of Interest’ (EOI) process for state/territory Member Associations to submit proposals to become the future ‘home of hockey’ in Australia from 2025 onwards.
Currently, Hockey Australia’s High Performance Unit is located in Perth under an agreement with the Western Australian Government and Hockey WA that expires in December 2024.
With the HA Administration currently based in Melbourne, the sport’s national governing body is seeking have a single hub hosting a HA High Performance Centre of Excellence (CoE) and administration headquarters.
“Hockey Australia’s ambition is to co-locate our high performance program and head office within a world class hockey centre, capable of accommodating our national squads, supporting our high performance staff, our head office staff and supporting the delivery of world class broadcasted hockey events,” said HA CEO David Pryles.
“Our national teams are among the best in the world and have constantly inspired the nation through their performances. To continue this sustained podium success with a focus on medals at Olympic Games we need to implement the world’s best development support systems and environment for all athletes and staff.”
“Member Associations in partnership with their respective State Government, State Institutes, Academies of Sport and other suitable partners are invited to make submissions to become this ‘home’ of national athletes and staff for hockey in Australia.”
“An integrated home of hockey will provide an ongoing legacy for the sport and be delivered in a fiscally responsible, sustainable and advantageous way for HA in the long term.”
Submissions will be reviewed by an Assessment Panel that will be announced in the coming weeks.
A recommendation will be put forward by the Assessment Panel to the HA High Performance Committee and HA Board before a final decision is made.
The winning candidate is expected to be announced by the end of this year.
The deadline for initial proposals to be submitted is 24 June 2022.
