Best U13 hockey talent assembles in Newcastle for nationals

The best under 13 hockey talent from across Australia is in Newcastle for the Hockey Australia Under 13 Carnival that starts tomorrow (23 September).

The Newcastle International Hockey Centre will see around 500 players, coaches and support staff in attendance for the week-long event.

“It’s clear that hockey is extremely popular among this age division with every state and territory represented in the 12 teams across both the Boys and Girls competitions,” said Hockey Australia CEO David Pryles.

“This carnival is always well attended and generates a fantastic atmosphere with the emphasis as much on player development and enjoyment as it is about results.

“Newcastle is sure to put on a fantastic event and we thank Destination NSW for their support in providing this opportunity for the players to represent their home state or territory on the national stage.”

The Victoria Venom team will be looking to back up their first-place finish at last year’s event in the Boys competition, with Queensland Cinders out to do the same in the Girls.

The event is one of two hockey national championships taking place this September, with the Australian Masters Championships being held in Perth from 22 September – 7 October showcasing the best players aged from 34 through to 80 plus.

The 2023 Hockey Australia U13 National Carnival is proudly supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.

Every match of the U13 Carnival will be streamed on LIVEHockey.
