Australian Under 13 Hockey Carnival wraps up in Newcastle

The 2023 Hockey Australia Under 13 Carnival has concluded after a successful seven days of action at the Newcastle International Hockey Centre.

Queensland Cinders went undefeated with 9 wins and 2 draws to take home the Gold Medal in the Girls competition, with New South Wales winning silver and Queensland Embers the bronze.

In the Boys competition, Western Australia Lightning’s 5-1 final day victory secured them the Gold Medal. They were closely followed by Victoria Venom with New South Wale Stars bringing home the bronze medal after edging Queensland Cutters on goal difference.

A total of 156 goals were scored across the 66 matches in the Girls Carnival, 10 of those coming from the stick of NSW Lions’ Sophia Galland who finished two goals clear of QLD Embers’ Savannah Patterson as the competition’s top goal scorer.

There were 204 goals scored in the Boys competition with Victoria Venom’s Kryshant Jiwa Mohan leading the way with 14. This was double the next best with Hayden Bourne (VIC Venom), Jake D’Agostino (VIC Venom), and Toby Peoples (NSW Stars) all finishing with 7 goals each. 

The 2023 Hockey Australia U13 National Carnival was proudly supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.
