Australia’s best Under 15 hockey talent has assembled in Darwin for the national championships that start tomorrow at the Marrara Hockey Centre.

The week-long event, which will see close to 500 players, coaches and staff in attendance, will be the first time a national hockey championships have been held in the Northern Territory since 2015.

“Hosting the Under 15 Championships in Darwin is part of Hockey Australia’s overall strategy of hosting major events across the country and I’m thrilled for the local hockey community in the Top End,” said Hockey Australia CEO David Pryles.

“To have 12 teams in both the Boys and the Girls competitions with representation from every state and territory is a sign of the popularity for hockey at this age level and their excitement about playing on a national stage.”

“This age group is as much about enjoyment as it is about winning, and these championships are really the first stage of the pathway to unearth the next generation of Hockeyroos and Kookaburras.”

“I want to acknowledge and thank the Northern Territory Government for their support and enthusiasm in holding this event at what is an outstanding sporting precinct at Marrara.”

Queensland Maroon enter the tournament as the defending Girls and Boys champions, having defeated Western Australia in both Gold Medal matches.

The 2023 Hockey Australia U15 National Championships are proudly supported by the Northern Territory Government through Northern Territory Major Events.
