The titles for the Under 14s, Under 16s, Under 18s, Under 21s, Indoors, Country and Women’s and Men’s Masters will go back on the line in 2025, with all events streamed live and on-demand at livehockey.com.au.
Hockey Australia Chief Events Officer Simon Butterly is thrilled to unveil an extensive calendar that will continue to showcase some of the country’s best hockey players across all levels, providing a vital player pathway system.
“Our National Championships remain the cornerstone of the growth and development of the best hockey in Australia,” Simon said.
“It’s fantastic to deliver another blockbuster calendar that will continue to see the game enjoyed in many corners of Australia and by all ages. The National Championships together provide a strong pathway for players to advance from our national junior Hookin2Hockey program for 5 – 12-year-olds through their teenage years and beyond until they’re 70+ at the Masters Championships. Hockey really is a game for all ages.
“I’d like to express my gratitude to the governments and our state and territory member associations for their unwavering support, making it possible to deliver eight premier National Championships.”
After winning the men's and women's Indoor crowns, ACT and New South Wales have already claimed first honours at the Indoor National Championships in Canberra.
The Under 16s are next when Adelaide’s MATE Stadium and Port Adelaide District Hockey Club host 24 teams over eight action-packed days from 31 March to 7 April.
Proudly supported by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, Mayor Claire Boan said, “Many of Australia’s national players began their journey right here in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield, starting with our local clubs. With a proud legacy of nurturing talent, we are excited to sponsor this event and look forward to welcoming some of the nation’s finest young hockey players to compete here.”
The next Hockeyroos and Kookaburras will be unearthed in front of National Junior and Elite selectors in Bendigo in May when the Victorian city hosts the highly anticipated blue ribbon event, the Australian Under 21 Championships.
Proudly supported by City of Greater Bendigo and the Victorian Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions through the Significant Sporting Events Program, City of Greater Bendigo Manager Economy and Experience James Myatt said Bendigo was an ideal choice to present this prestigious event in May.
“The City of Greater Bendigo is excited to host the must-see blue ribbon event, the Australian Under 21 Championships, at our world-class facilities. This is a fantastic opportunity for emerging players where their talents and skills will be centre stage for all to see, including prominent selectors,” Mr Myatt said.
Athletes under 18 from all over Australia will head west and descend on Perth from 4 – 12 July for one of our largest events on the 2025 National Championships calendar.
Split between Perth Hockey Stadium and Melville Toyota Stadium, the best school-age hockey players transition to the final step in the high-performance player pathway program, the Under 21 Championships and age-grade national junior teams.
History will be made in Rockhampton in August when the Country Championships take place in the hometown of Kookaburras Legend Mark Knowles for the very first time.
The 2004 Athens Olympic Gold Medallist is delighted Rockhampton will host the event after years of hard work and facility upgrades.
“When it’s a town that you love and grew up with, you know how special it is for hockey. I grew up in the country and I know how important these National Championships are for country players, they get to represent their state and have the chance to be picked for national country teams,” Mark Knowles said.
Proudly supported by Rockhampton Regional Council, Mayor Tony Williams said hosting a sporting event of this size presents a significant boost to Rockhampton’s visitor economy and local jobs.
“We’re continuing to put Rockhampton on the radar as a destination of choice amongst state and national sporting peak bodies. With world-class facilities at Kalka Shades and a proud hockey heritage that has produced champions like Mark Knowles, we're perfectly positioned to welcome players and their supporters from across Australia,” Mayor Williams said
Hockey Australia’s largest Championships, the Women’s and Men’s Masters will be decided across the country in 2025, when Hobart and Newcastle kick off both events on 26 September.
Around 2,500 Masters will compete for the title of the women’s and men’s Masters Championships, as well as the chance to represent Australia at the World Masters Hockey World Cup in 2026.
Lord Mayor Ross Kerridge said City of Newcastle is delighted the Men's Masters Championships is heading to the Newcastle International Hockey Centre.
"The Newcastle International Hockey Centre has a history of producing Kookaburras and Hockeyroos and just last year hosted a sold-out Hockey One double-header," Cr Kerridge said.
"We look forward to welcoming hundreds of athletes, their families and friends to Newcastle, and hope they have the chance to explore everything our city has to offer."
Hundreds of Under-14 representatives will descend on the State Hockey Centre and Easts Hockey Club in Brisbane from 5 – 11 October in our last event on the national calendar.
Made possible thanks to Hockey Queensland and Easts Hockey Club, the Under 14 Championships will also achieve a National Championship first. In what is a huge opportunity for Australia’s next budding stars, some matches will act as a curtain raiser to the Liberty Hockey One League, before the event concludes on 11 October.
