Australian Country 2023 representative teams announced

The players and staff selected in this year’s Australian Open and Under 21 Men’s and Women’s Teams have been announced following the conclusion of the national championships in Shepparton.

The Hockey Australia Country teams are representative teams selected from the competing teams at the Australian Country Championships each year.

Traditionally the four representative teams selected are:
- Senior Men and Women
- 21s Men and Women

To be selected in the Australian Country representative teams, players must be registered with their state, earn state selection through their domestic selection process and compete at the Australian Country Championships.

Upon selection, each of the representative teams compete in an international tour.

The 21s are off to Borneo (Sabah and Sarawak) to play against a variety of club and state teams. Currently, the plan is for the teams to play in Kuching (Sarawak), Tawau and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah.

Australian 21s Country Teams last visited Borneo in January 2020 just before the COVID pandemic.

In January this year the Australian 21s Country sides were back on tour for the first time post the pandemic and completed a successful tour of Indonesia.

Back in April this year, the senior rep teams selected after the 2022 Australian Country Championships went on tour to Singapore and Malaysia. While in Singapore, the teams competed in a 3-match series against the national teams before moving on to games in Melaka and Kuala Lumpur where they played a combination of club, state and notional development teams.

For the Senior teams selected from this year’s national championships, they will head to New Zealand for a series of matches. The last time Australian Country teams toured New Zealand was back in 2019.
