Amy Lawton awarded Sport Australia Hall of Fame scholarship

Amy Lawton’s potential as one of Australian women’s hockey next stars of has been recognised through Sport Australia Hall of Fame’s (SAHOF) Scholarship and Mentoring Program.

The 19 year old Hockeyroo was announced as one of ten recipients of a 2022 SAHOF Tier 2 Scholarship.

Lawton will receive a $5,000 sporting grant plus support and encouragement across the next 14 months from SAHOF and its esteemed member base.

After bursting onto the scene in her Hockeyroos debut on Anzac Day in 2019, Lawton has made 24 international appearances to date, including the recent Tokyo Olympics.

“I am absolutely honoured to have been selected as a Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship Applicant, especially because of the depth of talented young athletes in Australia currently,” said Lawton.

“This is something I know will be beneficial for my individual development both as a person and an athlete.

“It is always terrific to receive additional support as an athlete so that we are able to give more time and energy to the sport we love to strive to be the best we can and do our country and sport proud.”

Hockey Australia Acting CEO Michael Johnston congratulated Lawton on her scholarship.

“Still only 19 years of age, Amy is already an outstanding role model to aspiring athletes,” said Johnston.

“She is evidence of where you can get to with hard work and dedication, but most importantly enjoyment and passion in what you do.”

“Securing one these fantastic Sport Australia Hall of Fame scholarships is a great acknowledgment of Amy’s talent and her character. We look forward to seeing what lies ahead for her.”

The program is supported by Australian Government funding from Sport Australia and the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).
