A Win for Hockey – Gold Coast Named as 2032 Olympic Hockey Venue

Hockey Australia and Hockey Queensland proudly welcome today’s landmark announcement from the 100-day review, confirming the Gold Coast Hockey Centre as the official venue for hockey at the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.
The decision, announced by the Queensland Government today, ensures hockey will have a lasting legacy beyond the podium of the Brisbane Games.
It follows four years of collective campaigning for a cost-effective and sustainable solution for the sport, and it will see major international hockey events return to Queensland as the Centre becomes the only hockey venue in the state of an international standard.
Hockey Australia CEO David Pryles says today’s announcement is a groundbreaking moment for hockey in Australia.
“By repurposing the Gold Coast Hockey Centre, we now have a clear path to bring international hockey back to Queensland before 2032 and beyond.
“Today’s decision ensures the Olympics delivers a lasting impact on our sport and it will allow us to provide meaningful pathway development opportunities for players, fans, and future Olympians in the decade ahead.
“Hockey is a top ten global participation sport, our global audience is enormous, and as a sport, we are champing at the bit to start delivering legacy outcomes for Queensland and Australia right now.
Hockey Queensland CEO, Ms Alison Lyons, says today’s announcement was “a win for hockey, a win for the Gold Coast, and a win for Queensland.”
“Today’s decision ensures a high-quality, international-standard venue for the Games while also securing a lasting infrastructure legacy for the sport, strengthening Queensland’s position as a hockey powerhouse in Australia.
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity,” Ms Lyons added.
“The decision to host hockey on the Gold Coast is a great first step, but to truly capitalise on the Olympic Games, we must continue to invest in legacy projects that will benefit hockey communities throughout Queensland for generations to come.”
