David Talalla (Ethics & Governance Committee Member)
Experience: Possessing a Master of Business (Sport Management) and an Honours degree in Law, David’s career has been a blend of practicing Commercial Litigation, Conflict Resolution & Mediation; and a deep involvement in sport, from grassroots to elite, high performance level. David is a former elite level Match Referee and AFL Umpire Coach to the 34 contracted umpires.
David has extensive experience in Integrity through legal, Match Refereeing and Board work. Solid experience in diversity & equal opportunities especially with respect to female and multiculturalism participation.
David was a board member of the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) and a member of its High-Performance sub-committee dealing with scholarship holders from a wide variety of sports. He was also on the board of Gymnastics Victoria where part of his role was to work with the Men’s Gymnastics High Performance committee including strategic planning.
For the past seven years, David has mentored an AFL All Australian player from the Carlton Football Club and a former AFL player, now a life member of the Carlton FC. He coached and mentored elite level cricket umpires and also mentors an 18 year old Tennis Australia full scholarship holder who is currently ranked 6th in the World for his age. David feels mentoring such a wide range of young people enhances his communication and teaching skills and keeps him in tune with the psyche, philosophy and challenges of a diverse range of today’s youth.
